Glossary · Canadian rules
CASL.
Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation. It governs commercial electronic messages sent to Canadian addresses and it is stricter than the American equivalent.
Why it matters.
Three things every message needs: a lawful basis for sending it, clear identification of who is sending including a physical mailing address, and an unsubscribe that works and is honoured within ten business days. Penalties are administrative and real. It applies to a one-person business emailing twenty prospects exactly as it applies to a bank.
How to check it yourself.
Open the last marketing email you sent. Does it carry your business name, a physical mailing address and a working unsubscribe link? Any missing element is a compliance problem, not a style choice.
