Staging site.
A private copy of the site where changes are made and checked before they reach the public version.
Why it matters.
Two things go wrong without one: people edit the live site while customers are on it, and a half-finished rebuild gets indexed by Google. If you do have a staging copy, it must be blocked from search — a staging site indexed alongside the real one competes with it, and cleaning that up afterwards is tedious.
How to check it yourself.
Search Google for your domain with "staging" or "dev" in front of it. If a copy of your site appears, it is competing with the real one and should be blocked from search today.
